Introduction to GRS Certification

The extent of environmental damage caused by industrial manufacturing has affected everyone's daily life and personal health, as well as the living environment of marine organisms. In order to make garbage no longer landfilled, recycle on the earth, and reduce the over exploitation of energy, the whole world is advocating the use of recycled materials, especially the younger generation, who has a stronger awareness of environmental protection. The first choice for shopping is environmental protection products. Consumers check whether it is an environmental protection product through the "tag". Some brands are scanned for traceability (GRS material content).

GLOBAL Recycled Standard (GRS certification for short) is an international, voluntary and comprehensive product standard, which stipulates the third-party certification requirements for recycling content, production and marketing chain of supervision, social responsibility and environmental practices, and chemical restrictions. The content aims to increase the use of recycled materials in products and reduce/eliminate the hazards caused by their production, aiming at the implementation of supply chain manufacturers' restrictions on product recycling/renewable ingredients, chain of custody control, social responsibility and environmental regulations, and chemicals.

The Global Recycling Standard (GRS) was originally created in 2008, and the ownership was transferred to the Textile Trading Association on January 1, 2011. This standard is applicable to companies that wish to have statements describing the content of recycled raw materials in their final products. The GRS standard is based on the principle of tracking and tracing the certified finished products, and also contains the environmental andsocial responsibility related requirements applicable to all industries.

With the development of standards or the introduction of transaction certificate system,it can provide a better monitoring and control mechanism for the industrial supply chain, thus ensuring the integrity of the certified products. The global recycling standard is designed for applicants who join the GRS certification system. The applicants can be companies that trade and/or produce recycled products (finished products or semi-finished products) and prepare to join the GRS certification system. The scope of certified products is not limited to textiles. If the company outsources all or part of the production of finished products, relevant production units must also comply with GRS standards.

Why is GRS certification so popular?

Global consumers are paying more and more attention to "health", "environmental protection", "organic" and "green". Major brands and associations at home and abroad havedeveloped corresponding certification standards to meet their needs. How to occupy the market first and pass such certification is undoubtedly a problem that Chinese enterprises must face. How to make their recycled products better and attract more attention from international famous brands has always been a question for textile and clothing enterprises to think about. Facing the tide of going international, domestic sales and foreign trade are synchronized, and products must be recognized both domestically and internationally.

The GRS certification is an international recognition, and the products with the GRS logo meet all the requirements of the GRS certification; Secondly, GRS certification includesfive requirements: traceability, environmental protection, social responsibility, regeneration marks and general principles. Each aspect has its own complete requirements and guidelines; Finally, the product will become the designated processing enterprise of many domestic and foreign brands, and can provide globally recognized GRS tags to improve its own brand.

Recycled fiber shall also clearly indicate the pre consumption waste or post consumption waste, and the proportion of pre consumption and post consumption waste in recycled fiber. In addition to the provisions on raw materials, the regulations on corporate social responsibility, pollution prevention and treatment in the production process, and chemical restrictions were strengthened.

To obtain the GRS certification mark (tag), the raw materials of the product must contain at least 50% of the recycled ingredients before the GRS certification mark (tag) can beused.
