SBTi's Mission

The scientific carbon targets aim to help enterprises set scientific carbon reduction targets that meet the decarbonization level of two degrees Celsius, and are committed to promoting the setting of scientific carbon reduction targets as a commercial norm.

SBTi's Action Objectives

This initiative provides specific resources and practical guidance for different industries, helping companies set emission reduction targets that meet the decarbonization level of much lower than 2 or 1.5 degrees Celsius in the fifth assessment report of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The commercial significance of SBTi

Setting scientific carbon targets has great commercial significance for enterprises:

Greenhouse gas accounting system

Scope 1: Direct greenhouse gas emissions

It refers to the direct discharge of resources owned and controlled by the company. In other words, greenhouse gas emissions in Scope 1 are a direct result of a series of activities by the enterprise.

Scope 2: Indirect greenhouse gas emissions generated by electricity and heat

It refers to the greenhouse gas emissions generated by purchased electricity, heat, or steam consumed by enterprises. Outsourced electricity refers to the electricity that entersthe organizational boundaries of the enterprise through procurement or other means. The emissions in Scope 2 are actually generated from power production facilities.

Scope 3: Other indirect greenhouse gas emissions

It refers to all indirect emissions that occur in a company's value chain, that is, the resultof a company's activities, but do not originate from emission sources owned or controlled by the company. For example, upstream emissions of purchased goods, raw materials for mining and production procurement, fuel for transportation procurement, and the use of sold products and services.
