The Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS) is an industry tool aimed at ensuring sustainable production of Mohair. RMS means humane treatment for goats, ensuring that they receive respect and sympathetic care. Like RWS and RAS, it also promises to support sustainable agricultural methods to reduce the accompanying environmental impacts and treat all workers involved in the supply chain fairly.

The goal of RMS

Ensure that mohair does not come from animals that have suffered any unnecessary harm.

Reward and influence strong animal welfare, land management, and social welfare practices in the mohair industry.

Provide a strong chain of supervision from the farm to the final product.

Create industry benchmarks to drive improvements in animal care, land management, and social welfare when needed.

Key points in RMS

Protecting animal welfare: an overall policy for animal welfare based on the Five Regulations.

Protecting Land Health: RMS Farm adopts a progressive land management approach to protect soil health, biodiversity, and local species.

Protecting social welfare: Addressing issues related to social welfare, working conditions, and the health and safety of workers.

Trusted Certificate: ASCP, as a professional third-party certification body, audits every stage of the supply chain.

Chain of Custody: Certification ensures that the identity of RMS mohair remains unchanged from farm to final product. Only products with 100% certified mohair can bear the RMS logo.

Stakeholder engagement: RMS was developed with input from farmers, animal welfare experts, land conservation experts, brands, and retailers around the world.

RMS certification requirements

RMS requires all venues to be certified, from horse hair breeders to the final sellers in business to business transactions. Usually, the last stage that requires certification is for clothing manufacturers or brands; Retailers (business to consumer) do not require certification.

Farm scope

The farm is certified through the Animal Welfare, Land Management, and Social Welfaremodules of RMS.

Process scope

The subsequent stages of the supply chain have been proven to meet the Content Declaration Standard (CCS) requirements, until the last seller in a business to business transaction. The facilities are certified according to standards, and only goods with transactioncertificates are considered certified.

The advantages of RMS certification

Trusted Supplier: RMS allows consumers to consciously shop and choose animal welfareand sustainability certified mohair products, not only for purchasing products, but also for purchasing the future.

Consumer satisfaction: Companies that adopt RMS can benefit from improving consumer satisfaction, as consumers appreciate their commitment to ethics and the environment.

Reducing environmental impact: This certification promotes sustainable agricultural practices and helps reduce the environmental impact of the mohair industry. This is an important step towards moral and sustainable development, helping to ensure animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility for the production of this precious textile fiber.
